Job Requirements and Description
BS degree in Physics or Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and a minimum of 3 years engineering experience is required. Experience in valves, ducts, and actuators used on the Space Shuttle External Tank is desired. Experience with cryogenic fluid components is desired. Excellent planning, organizing, scheduling and resource allocation skills required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong team commitment and excellent customer relations skills required. Experience with valves, ducts and actuators not related to aerospace will be considered based on background, hardware knowledge and complexity of assignments and projects.
Other Duties:
Provide engineering support to the Valves, Actuators, and Ducts Branch of the Propulsion Systems Department of MSFC for the design, development, and testing of valves, actuators, and ducts for the Space Shuttle External Tank. Duties may include design, development, test, fabrication and assembly of various components or systems used for liquid stage propulsion engines. Fundamental tasks performed in the design and development process include conceptual design, fluid flow analysis, stress analysis, material selection, manufacturing technique selection, and computer aided design modeling. Develop performance requirements, specifications, test plans, test procedures, and technical reports for design. Participate in formal project requirements, design and test readiness reviews. Carry out assigned duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with MSFC safety policies. Report existing or potentially hazardous situations and close calls and assist in eliminating these conditions. Provide field liaison interfacing with machine shops, vendors, assembly/installation crews, etc.
