Senior Buyer

   Receive and analyze requirements to buy goods and services. Locate and contract with sources providing goods and services and commit the company’s funds for the procurement of goods and services.  Must have Excellent communication and negotiation skills.  With a high level of skill in  Computers specific to purchasing software and Microsoft Office.    Travel is required outside of the Yakima area.

 

This position you will plan and execute negotiations with vendors.  Augment negotiations conducted by management.  Always attempt to make purchases in the best interest of the company. Ensure that major purchases are made within the context of program requirements, particularly as relates to delivery and contractual matters.  Ensure that all purchases are properly documented.  Coordinate with Production Control planners to minimize the impact to inventory of purchases made.  Help to strengthen the requisitioning process in this regard. Implement and administer formal vendor performance improvement programs that are established. Keep abreast of changes in supplier capabilities that my affect performance (negatively or positively) on contracts.  Recommend any courses of action accordingly. Seek out potential suppliers on an ongoing basis that can help the company improve its competitive status in terms of price, delivery and technology.  Participate in any value analysis programs initiated. Coordinate with Engineering during the product design phase to influence design-to-cost practices addressing tight tolerances, unnecessary features, specified sources and other issues that affect purchasing flexibility.  Likewise coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering to minimize the impact to product cost, schedule, and quality from outside processes. Participate in and influence management decisions rendered in bid meetings, make-buy decision, commitments to customers and other occasions where procurement of goods and services has a strategic impact.  Keep management apprised of market trends in terms of price and availability for major commodities or commodity groups.
