Principal Systems Engineer

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering plus a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. Candidate must be a US Citizen and must be able to pass a background check. A current DoD Secret clearance is preferred; however, any candidates without a clearance must be willing and able to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.

Skills Needed:
Ideal candidate will possess a systems engineering perspective to rocket or missile design, verification, and production. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. Experience with specification writing, requirements creation/management, requirements verification activities, and trade study analysis is a plus. Ability to work effectively under tight schedule pressure and deadlines is required. Ability to proactively interface with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers in the pursuit of focused, time-critical tasks is required.

Duties Specific to the Position:
Position will be part of the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Kinetic Energy Interceptor (KEI) program. Orbital is developing a new interceptor booster to support the unique requirements of ascent and midcourse-phase interception of target missiles. In this position, the candidate will perform general systems engineering and system architecting activities and also manage numerous contractual engineering deliverables and ensure their timely delivery to the customer. The candidate will interface with internal engineers, the customer community, and other program participants to define booster related system requirements and p processes. The candidate will participate in the development of booster requirements within the context of a total missile defense system. The candidate will support and coordinate systems tasks leading to a System Design Review (SDR). Candidate will need to present work frequently to a wide-ranging audience located at various facilities. Candidate will have to manage a small team to develop submittals and generate presentations. Frequent reporting to management on progress will be required. Ideal candidate should have excellent communications skills, presentation experience and ability to work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the systems team. Electrical/Mechanical/Aero experience a plus. Other duties as assigned.
