Lead Traffic/Shipping Coordinator

Initiates shipping documents and ensures materials are packed and shipped for government and commercial shipments.

Primary Responsibilities
' Schedules and coordinates transportation of shipments as required.
' Procures comparative prices on all shipments to insure best rates.
' Reviews shipping invoices to verify correct charges.
' Updates and maintains classification log for hazardous classification of items.

' Evaluates and designs transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency.
' Researches and analyzes freight costs and classifications, delivery methods, and delivery schedules to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction.
' Examines contents and compare with records to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
' Prepares documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.
' Determines shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
' Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
' May provide direction and work assignments to other employees in a lead capacity
' Packs and prepares materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter.
' Ensures that every shipment which leaves the company complies with all hazardous materials regulations.
' Interprets federal, military, commercial and international specifications on packaging, labeling and transportation of hazardous materials.
' Reviews contracts to identify packaging specifications and request additional information or clarification from customers.
' Minimizes transportation expenses by determining the most economical and expeditious method of shipment in accordance with carrier restrictions and delivery schedules.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
' Associate's degree and 3-5 years equivalent experience working in supply chain, logistics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
' Ability to adapt or modify packaging procedures according to method of shipment, ultimate destination and customer demands.
' Ability to interpret requirements made by customers, government inspectors, and freight carriers.
' Ability to understand the full line of company products in order to properly categorize and certify products as properly packaged for shipment.
' Ability to multi-task with good organizational skills.
' Good written and verbal skills.
' Good computer knowledge, particularly in MSOffice programs.
' Must be highly competent in assimilating quickly to new assignments with minimal supervision.
' Commit to and achieve deadlines.
' Leadership behavior including a strong focus on internal and external customer satisfaction; exhibits and encourages sense of urgency; promotes a work environment which promotes creativity, informed risk taking and continuous improvement; sets and achieves ambitious goals.

Preferred:
' Experience with government Bill of Ladings, packaging procedures and regulations.
' Familiarity with surface freight and airlines, especially those that ship hazardous material.
