TAX FAMILY WEALTH PLANNING - SENIOR ASSOCIATE/TAX CONSULTANT
POSITION SUMMARY
Our Family Wealth Planning practice, part of Strategic Federal Tax Services (SFTS), uses specialized, local office and national staff to provide expert services to our clients. Grant Thornton's wealth planning and business succession services help business owners and corporate executives enhance and preserve their wealth. Our planning professionals provide comprehensive tax and wealth retention advice to business owners, entrepreneurs, executives and high net worth families. We offer income tax planning, personal financial planning, and retirement and estate planning for business owners, corporate executives, individuals and family groups. Our professionals also prepare complex individual, partnership, gift, trust and estate tax returns.
The Senior Family Wealth Planning Tax Associate is responsible for providing tax compliance and consulting services to our clients and works with other professionals in SFTS to assist to build a profitable practice, delivering high value solutions and income, estate, charitable, and gift tax planning strategies to the high net worth market. The client base is primarily comprised of owners of closely held businesses and other high-income individuals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
-Manage client engagements from start to finish, which includes planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects and managing to budget.
-Provide tax planning and consulting to our firm's high net worth clients for estate, wills and trusts taxation, and individual income taxes. Interact closely with client's other advisors, such as attorneys and financial managers.
-Review and prepare individual, partnership, gift, trust and estate tax returns.
-Review prior year tax returns to look for potential errors, inconsistencies, planning opportunities, etc.
-Review/summarize client's estate documents, including wills, trusts, etc.
-Identify and capitalize on opportunities to sell tax services.
-Formulate and deliver innovative tax planning and tax savings strategies.
-Research tax matters, primarily in the federal estate, gift, charitable, and generation-skipping tax arenas.
-Supervise, train, and mentor associates and interns on tax projects and assess performance of staff for engagement reviews; perform in-charge role as needed.
-Maintain a good working relationship with clients to enhance customer satisfaction and work with client management and staff at all levels to perform tax services.
-Proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve tax-related problems, and make recommendations for business and process improvements.
-Assist partners and senior management on proposals and business development calls.
-Gain comprehensive understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives, and utilize that knowledge on engagements.
-Participate in recruiting efforts, as needed.
-Attend professional development and training seminars on a regular basis.
-Perform other job-related duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA required. Masters in Taxation, LLM in Taxation, JD or CFP preferred, or currently pursuing one of these degrees/certifications.
-A minimum of two to four years of progressive tax consulting and compliance in Family Wealth Planning, or related area, in public accounting or consulting.
-Experience in preparing and reviewing complex estate, trust, and individual returns.
-Experience in reviewing and summarizing various estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, life insurance policies, etc.
-Experience in financial modeling and analysis.
-Superior analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills.
-Ability to supervise staff and lead projects.
-Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
-Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment.
-Strong leadership, recruiting, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
-Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills and strong attention to detail.
-Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint presentation skills preferred.
-Computer expertise, including knowledge of tax software and technology.
-Ability to work additional hours, as needed, and travel to various client sites.
