Staff Analyst

Iridium Satellite LLC is a leader in the provision of satellite-based wireless communications services designed to provide telephone, messaging and data transmissions on a global basis.  Our rapid expansion has created the need for an experienced Staff Analyst. 

 

Position Overview:

In this multi-faceted role you will work with our accounting team on the overall financial support of the organization.  Must be familiar with a variety of accounting principles, practices, and procedures, and able to perform a variety of tasks.  Back up to other team members as needed. All of the above will be performed in a fast paced, rapidly evolving environment.

 

Requirements:BS Degree in Accounting3-5 years experience in corporate environmentGood written and oral command of EnglishCompetent with all MS Office applications, including, but not restricted to, Outlook, Excel and WordHas been in a payroll supervisory role with a multi-state company of similar size Experience using ADP payroll software Ability to translate written agreements and numerical data into detailed payroll calculations.Proven experience & expertise in general ledger accounting and corporate accountingProven ability to understand and analyze financial statementsPrior experience in high growth / very fast paced environmentsExperience with general ledger systems (Oracle preferred) and account reconciliationBe able to inspire confidence in, and to work with people at all levelsAble to work both on own initiative and as a team playerAny relevant professional payroll / accounting qualification preferredCPA preferred

 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

ACCOUNTING DUTIES (60%)Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements and accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives.Monitor cash disbursements and receipts on a daily basis (using Riggs Bank and Internet software). Prepare weekly cash flow reports and initiate wire transfersAssist in preparing year-end account analyses; lead sheets and any other items necessary for the annual audit.Bank reconciliationsManage Government service and maintenance contracts (includes contract analysis, accounting determination and invoicing)Audit Accounts Payable check run for accuracy and adherence to procurement policies.Special reporting requests (i.e. Bureau of Economic Analysis Direct foreign investment forms)

 

PAYROLL & HR DUTIES (40%):

 Responsible for the calculation of the monthly company payroll, and overseeing the monthly payroll data capture. Implement processes to ensure the efficient and accurate capture of payroll data. Responsible for ensuring that all non-basic payments are appropriately authorized. Responsible for the input of payroll data, and processing of the monthly payroll using ADP. Validate the output for reasonableness.Understand and be able to use manual tax tables whenever necessary.Prepare standard monthly payroll reports and month end journal entries. To provide ad hoc and other necessary reports and analysis as and when required, in an accurate & timely manner.Responsible for payroll related compliance such as ensuring that all deductions,  401(k) contributions, attachment of earnings, etc, are reconciled to payroll records and paid on a timely basis.Process year end payroll including W-2s.Prepare and process fringe benefits: company cars, healthcare, etc.  Analyze employment contracts and research tax issues related to fringe benefits.Maintain overall responsibility for administration of payroll, in doing so:Maintaining the standing and variable data on the payroll software. To ensure that the data is matched and agreed on at least a monthly basis to Oracle balance sheet records.

Finance liaison with HR / Marketing to develop & implement commission plans and payment verification for Business Development personnel.Be proactive in suggesting and implementing improvements to current payroll procedures, including documenting all existing processes and procedures to ensure continuity of payroll during leave and/or absence.  Provide training and assistance to back-up payroll person.Implement future payroll system upgrades (on-line upgrade planned for Q104) / attend relevant training classes
