Director, Universal Life Financial Reporting

The LAD Accounting Department of Protective Life Corporation has an opening for a Director of Financial Reporting/Universal Life in the Birmingham, Alabama home office. This position is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for all universal life products produced by the Life and Annuity Division. The position is the focal point for all external reporting and analysis of results for the assigned products and operations, primarily FAS 97 (including BOLI) products sold through LAD. In this capacity, the incumbent is responsible for bringing together a cohesive financial package and working with other financial areas, particularly the valuation actuarial team and the Business Planning and Analysis group, to analyze and understand results. The position is expected to develop reporting support using available tools including, but not limited to, Cognos, Excel, Access and the Company’s general ledger. The position is also expected to develop meaningful analytical measures and standards to ensure a quality review process.

 

Responsibilities
Prepares financial reporting for all Division FAS 67 products and serves as primary division expert on FAS 67 life accounting issues.
Ensures consistency of reports and processes to analyze results and insure appropriate controls.
Serves as primary accounting resource for other areas of LAD.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A Bachelors degree in Accounting is required. A thorough knowledge of GAAP and Statutory for FAS 67 as evidenced by 5+ years of applicable experience is required. MBA, CPA, and insurance accounting experience are preferred.
