Director, Accounting/Finance

We are seeking a director of our accounting/finance department to direct and have responsibility for the daily accounting practices, the maintenance of fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports; directs and has overall supervisory responsibility for general and property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls; appraises operating results in terms of costs, budgets, policies of operations, trends and increased profit opportunities; plans and directs treasury activities which include the care and custody of funds and other financial assets, and supervision of the banking, credit, insurance, and tax functions.


 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develop accounting policies to comply with generally accepted accounting principles, tax requirements and management reporting requirements.
Administer general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, forms control, office equipment control and records retention programs.
Interpret operating results as they affect the financial aspects of the organization and make specific recommendations, which will result in cost reduction and profit improvement.
Select, motivate, train and evaluate an excellent workforce.
Serve as Treasurer for all for-profit subsidiaries (currently 5).
Assume responsibility for accounting classifications of all expenditures and documents, including capital and others.
Responsible for establishing internal accounting control policies and procedures and testing their effectiveness.
Direct the preparation of monthly and yearly consolidated financial statements, including the preparation of charts and graphs showing progress, conditions and results in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Analyze monthly and yearly financial performance. Review financials with managerial staff.
Maintain custody and be accountable for all cash, securities, and financial assets.
Review and manage the cash positions, plan for maintenance of adequate funds through cash and other financial forecasts to meet outstanding and planned commitments.
Responsible for arrangement and administration of lines of credit, tax-exempt bonds/private placement issues and depository accounts in appropriate banks.
Serve as lead person on pension/401(k) committee.
Maintain rapport with applicable banks and other financial institutions and manage the investment of monetary funds in accordance with board-approved policies.
Administer the insurance programs and make recommendations for the purpose of maintaining or improving the insurability of property.
Supervise the management of policies and procedures relating to credit and collection.
Forecast operating results and analyze forecasts and budgets in relation to actual results.
Manage and improve the annual corporate budgeting process.
Responsible for the accounting, foreign currency translations and consolidation of current and future international subsidiaries, including Canada, Brazil, China and the United Kingdom.
Manage the fulfillment of US and International tax requirements and assess the tax impact on new areas of income.
Perform and review account reconciliations.
Assistance with financial due diligence for mergers and acquisitions including cost/pricing analysis and incorporation of acquisitions into consolidated financial statements.
Review and assess service agreements between not-for-profit and for-profit corporate entities.
Cost containment/reduction initiatives.
Manage annual financial, insurance, pension, and 401k audits. Maintain rapport with audit, tax preparation, and actuarial firms.
Perform other duties as assigned and support CFO and other members of senior management.

 




REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MBA with accounting focus or CPA.
Five to eight years of accounting and financial management experience.
A minimum of two (2) years supervisory/leadership of staff experience.
International accounting /tax experience.
Budgeting, income tax, and insurance coverage experience.
Experience with financial system conversions.
Experience with mergers and acquisitions.
Experience with Treasury and investment functions.
Excellent communication, organization, and team building skills.
A positive and professional attitude.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with Sarbanes–Oxley requirements.
Experience with Oracle Financials software.
Lean Six Sigma experience.
