Branch Controller - Construction Industry

DESCRIPTION

Our fast-growing company, located in Mesa, Arizona, is seeking a hands-on Controller who will direct the financial staff within a subsidiary of a national construction company. The Controller will take an active role in analyzing the business processes as they affect the financial position of the organization and advise management of any suggested improvements. The Controller will also be expected to analyze the company’s internal controls in order to suggest and implement improvements to those systems.

 

 REQUIREMENTS

Qualified candidates should possess the following requirements:

- A strong educational background in accounting.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in a financial management role.
- Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail.
- Strong construction background with job costing experience.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, a leader who can be a good team player.
- Strong planning and decision making skills.


The following experience is highly desirable:

- Experience with mid-range accounting systems (i.e. Navision, Great Plains, Solomon).
- Bachelor's degree with CPA designation a plus

- Working knowledge of GAAP
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Strong computer skills (MS Excel and Word)
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Supportive team player

The controller's responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Management of accounting personnel.
- Regularly support and advise branch manager on financial issues.
- Work closely with senior management to analyze and resolve any financial issues.
- Manage the accounts receivable and collection processes.
- Maintain accounts payable processes and controls.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and perform account reconciliations.
- Perform weekly payroll through Navision accounting software.
- Maintain job costing systems/budgets and ensure that payroll and purchases are being properly recorded and inventory properly valued.
- Take part in and ensure that physical inventories are accurately conducted and that significant book to physical variances are researched and explained.
- File monthly financial reports and ad-hoc management reporting

- File and maintain all state and federal reports and/or associated tax accounts.
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Develop and maintain annual budgets.
- Report on monthly variances of "actual versus budget".
- Responsible for the monthly closing process including detailed review of all financial statements prior to distribution to management.
- Ability to manage operational issues on an "as needed" basis.
- Trend analysis on operation and market conditions.
- Propose and implement additional improvements and analysis.
